It's really odd that Mark Twain ended up on such a downbeat note, he who brought me so much laughter. I thought his book about predetermination, Mysterious Stranger was one of the most depressing books I ever read.

You know, I've occasionally wondered about that myself. I'm going to have to find a good biography of Twain and add it to my endlessly-growing "books I absolutely must read" list.
